Value in the Eye of the Beholder – How to Create and Maintain the Value of Your Innovation
This session will bridge the gap between the tech and legal communities with the often asked question – what is my technology worth? It is important for innovators and their lawyers to understand the concept of value, how it is created and then how to protect it. Ian Wintrip and Anil Bhole will explore value in technology in the following ways:

- A Youtube channel
- Clean energy technology
- Going from start up to established player – creating an IP portfolio that generates value.
The session will be lead by Ian Wintrip, a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Business Valuator and Anil Bhole, an intellectual property lawyer and patent agent .
Ian Wintrip has worked exclusively in the field of business valuation, forensic and investigative accounting since 1997. His experience includes valuing business interests, analyzing and quantifying economic damages and conducting financial investigations and due diligence on behalf of individuals, corporations, and enforcement agencies. Ian has particular expertise in intellectual property.
Ian has qualified as an expert witness in forensic accounting matters in Ontario Superior Court, the Ontario Municipal Board and participated in private arbitration proceedings. He has also provided assistance in the negotiation of share transactions and contracts and prepared valuation analysis required under Ontario Securities Commission rules, for proceedings under the Family Law Act, Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and for the purposes of Chapter 11 proceedings in the United States.
Ian is an Associate Director, leading the business valuation & litigation practice at Navigant Consulting in Toronto. Previously, Ian practiced at his own firm specializing in business valuation and forensic accounting.
Anil Bhole is a computer engineer, lawyer and patent agent practising in all aspects of IP law, primarily focusing on IP strategy, patent preparation and prosecution, and licensing. Anil has assisted clients of all sizes, from start-up mobile app developers to blue chip technology companies. Anil’s expertise ranges from mobile devices, mobile applications and search algorithms to wireless signals, VLSI technologies, infrastructure optimization and cleantech.
Anil is particularly enthusiastic about assisting start-up companies to develop IP strategies and pursue protection for key aspects of their technologies. He has also assisted established companies to formulate best practices for managing their IP portfolios and leveraging IP assets.
Anil works closely with the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs by presenting to early stage companies and conducting guest lectures at the University of Waterloo.
